Lifestyle Photography: Alex
To fend off the winter blues, I recently placed an ad to find people to act as models for a photo-shoot. I set up a meeting with Alex, a French Canadian man. In his email, he had said he was shy and could I make him look good? All kinds of images sprung to mind and I thought maybe I had bitten off more than I could chew – until a tall, slim, good-looking guy walked through the door of Add the Colour in Brighton. Surely that can’t be him, I thought. It was.
We had a quick discussion about what he was looking to get out of the session, then we headed down towards the seafront and Brighton Pier where the shoot would take place. It was one of those sunny but chilly winter’s days – not too bright, but a nice light.
Despite his previous claim, I soon found out that Alex wasn’t quite so shy after all when he asked if he could get a few shots topless! He was a real sport and seemed very relaxed about going along with my ideas for the shoot. He also offered some of his own, which is always a bonus.
One thing that made the shoot and the whole afternoon very amusing was the prop he chose. We went to buy a flower to use – a particularly strange and beautiful one caught our eye – it turned out to be an ornamental cabbage!!!! But it was very different so we went with it. Being a romantic French man, Alex tried to make the cabbage look sexy, as you might a rose. All this did however was reduce us to fits of laughter, as it just seemed so wrong.
It was a great afternoon spent getting to know someone, trying out a few techniques (off-camera flash) and learning how to use the surrounding environment.
Many thanks to Alex for being such a sport and all the best with your future plans, maybe our paths will cross again at some point. If your reading this and looking at the photos thinking that looks different and interesting and would like a lifestyle photo-shoot then get in touch and book one today.
