It's a bright summer's day - what better way to spend it than having fun with a themed photoshoot in the park?!
A few weeks ago, I was commissioned by Carol Angel to photograph her adult jewellery range in a natural, lifestyle way - the results of that shoot can be seen HERE. Well, I'm pleased to say she was so impressed with my work on that venture that she asked if I would photograph her BRAND NEW range of children's jewellery, and I was only too happy to oblige.
Carol organised all the children for the shoot and made beautiful bespoke jewellery pieces for each child. Carol wanted a fairy/angel theme as most of the children are young and enjoy dressing up - don't kids just love that! Not only did they dress like angels but they acted that way too. They were full of energy, obliging, excited and ready to pose for me - it was a real delight to photograph them.
The setting for this shoot was the unusual Rockery in Preston Park. The area is very under-utilised and yet has some wonderful spots that are great for creating images. There are the stepping-stones, the lush grasses and the HUGE plants - not to mention the fact that it's fenced in, so safe for young children.
I broke the children up into small groups as they were a mixture of ages and it wouldn't have worked to photograph all of them in the same way. The eldest was twelve and I wanted her shoot to have a more grown-up feel to it, away from the younger children, which she appreciated. She seemed very much at ease in front of the camera and posed naturally, which was great for me and Carol.
The younger children were just asked to hang out, have fun and ignore me (if they could). They were only too happy to chat, seek adventure and enjoy themselves - while I snapped away in the background, catching their youthful exuberance set off by the gorgeous jewellery. Then it was time to photograph the lady herself, Carol, who openly admits she is a little camera-shy, but she learnt to relax, breathe in her surroundings and just "be".
It was a delight to work with all these wonderful people and I look forward to doing similar shoots in the future. Gandhi once said “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony” - if that's the case, then I am happy.
