Roasted commercial photoshoot
I was recently commissioned to do a commercial photoshoot for ROASTED. This was organised by Robert Ross, a barista I had recently photographed at work in a local coffee shop. So who are Roasted? Roasted are a company supplying superior quality coffee machines, products and services to businesses. Whether for a company, its clients or its staff, they are dedicated to delivering a wonderful cup of coffee at a reasonable price with a high level of service. They are an accredited Jura partner, which means that they have been selected by Jura for their customer-focused approach to business. They're responsible for representing Jura in Sussex, Surrey and Kent. They have also teamed up with City College, Brighton and Hove, to offer barista training.
In addition, Roasted is an ethical company and understands that not everyone has an easy time growing and harvesting coffee. They promote and supply Fairtrade-oriented products wherever possible and they are supporters of the Brighton charity Off The Fence. It's clear that they are a very active community spirited company and well worth supporting.
On the day of the shoot, I was greeted by Richard, the head of the company, who told me about SanRemo, a young, dynamic company setting high standards in the production of coffee machines for professional use. Their machines are designed for high-level performance and are a perfect balance of form and function.
The Verona model echoes the soft decorative lines of classical machines but with a modern, up-to-date feel and cutting-edge technology. I got a beginner's guide to the workings of the machine - the electronic boiler control guarantees regular delivery at a constant temperature. Digital beverage counters and special sensors to activate the service warning ensure maintenance times are optimal.
SanRemo machines also offer an innovative temperature stability control system (TCS) comprising a separate boiler for each group or station, meaning each group can be used at a specific stable temperature to obtain optimum and consistent brewing results.
SanRemo is sponsoring the UK Barista Championships and the Verona model is the machine that will be used by all the competitors. Each competitor will serve each of the four sensory judges a single espresso, a single cappuccino and a signature beverage of his/her choice, for a total of twelve drinks, during a period of fifteen minutes.
Its all in the beans! Freshness and short storage times are paramount with Roasted. Their beans are managed with vigorous diligence so they arrive to customers as fresh as possible. Each bag of beans has a date stamp and batch number marked on them so that you can tell exactly where and when they were roasted.
Espresso – a blend from Brazil, Honduras, Mocha and high-quality Robusta as a dark roast, giving a strong, completely roasted flavour with a smooth creamy texture and rich chocolate flavours.
L Style – a blend from Brazil, Rwanda and high-quality Robusta as a medium roast to give a balanced, rounded flavour with notes of malt and subtle liquorice.
La Crema – a blend from Brazil, Honduras, washed Robusta and Kenya AA as a dark roast, to give a strong, full flavour; subtly roasted, the coffee has a delicate sweet toffee flavour with clean acidity and a soft finish.
Thanks to Robert (of Redwood Coffee House) and everyone at Roasted for taking the time to explain what they're about, for the little coffee machine lesson and for giving me the opportunity to produce some great shots of their products.
