There was a slight breeze and the sun was beating down on what would turn out to be a glorious day in West Sussex.
As part of the ShutterRock meetup group, Emma Thwaites and Laura Ellen Brennan had taken it upon themselves to organise a great photography gathering in Littlehampton, famous for its ground-breaking seafront bench, the longest bench in Britain. It twists and winds its way along the redbrick wall between the town’s Harbour Park and the iconic East Beach café, and its total length measures an impressive 324 metres.
The design sinuously slithers along the promenade, meandering around lampposts, slinking behind bins, and ducking down into the ground to provide access points between the beach and the Green. There are bursts of coloured slats randomly interspersed along the twisting structure and inside the iconic shelters. I know, right!
"Photoshmoto", as the dynamic duo are better known, had done a tremendous job organising models, makeup artists and clothing stylists, to give us mere photographers something to aim our cameras at. The shoot attracted around 20 photographers, some of whom I hadn't met before, and involved six models.
The models were fab, especially considering they had little or no experience but that didn't hold them back - they worked hard and were very willing to please, as we directly them into various poses.
This was one of the best organised meetups I've taken part in and even though Emma and Laura were stressing internally, their smiles remained on show, which is important. I truly believe if you are going to do something worthwhile then it's up to you to make it so - they did just that and the event was a credit to them!
