Frank Doorhof at Belt Craft Studios
Frank started the day with a light Question & Answer session before moving on to the first set. When the model, Nadine, entered dressed in an elaborate ball-gown, she was a sight to behold, and my trigger finger instantly started twitching.
Photographing on the Sony A7r camera, Frank talked us through his process and explained how to build a scene and use the environment. For the record, Belt Craft Studios is a great inspiring space to work in. It was good to see Frank construct his concept for the shot and what his end goal was likely to be.
We managed to photograph three different sets in the end - each person allocated one minute (within each set) to get their shot. As a bonus, Frank squeezed in a fourth set but we didn't have the time to photograph it, but that was fine just to watch him work. I managed to get some very nice portraits of Nadine as she modelled in each set.
After the workshop was over, we headed to the other side of London for his seminar, which was interesting and played to a packed house. If you missed the seminar then I suggest you get his book - Mastering the model shoot - as most of the topics were covered in the talk.
You may have noticed that I have changed my brand and website, I hope you like it! Krysalis Photography (my previous website) has now become Dade Freeman, as I feel it's more important to use my own name. This is an idea I have battled with for the past 2 years, so please do support me, and let me know I made the right choice ;)
Dade Freeman is a Brighton photographer producing portraits and headshots for actors, musicians, corporate business and other professional industries.
