It's not all about the camera
Photography is art. No, it really is! OK, so it is partly gear, partly having an eye and partly ability. Sure, your camera can sort out the exposure and focus but it can't compose, connect, edit, emote, etc. The camera is simply a tool to a photographer, just as a paintbrush is to an artist.
And, whilst you can't truly make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, you can, with the aid of Photoshop (PS), turn that picture of a porcine aural orifice into a very convincing satin coin-holder. Yes, I know a lot of people think Photoshop is evil. It isn't. Using it to make people three dress sizes smaller is not the best use, or purpose of Photoshop, and this is one of the main reasons PS has such a bad reputation. Another is that, at the beginning, PS seems very hard to use/understand.
Never fear. It's not as scary as you think it is. If you really want to get to grips with Photoshop and learn how to get the best from it, then look no further than Phlearn. Aaron Nace and his team have put together a growing collection of stunning tutorials (some free, some paid), to help you understand Photoshop. Aaron's easy-going nature makes the learning feel less like a chore as he demonstrates a multitude of ways of utilising PS.
I have often taken an image, processed it and thought "That's great" and left it there. Aaron seems to start where I stop - he takes images to a whole new level, turning a simple portrait into a beautiful winged fairy, or taking a huge, complicated landscape and turning it into a barren wasteland. This is the artistic element in full force.
Now maybe you don't want to go to that extreme. Maybe you just want to know how to remove facial blemishes or how to use the pen tool - no problem, he covers all that too.
One advantage of Phlearn is that you have the option to buy any course that fits your needs. So if you want to know only about a particular technique, you can purchase a tutorial video on that topic alone instead of paying a small fortune to subscribe to a bunch of videos in which you have no interest. As a bonus, Phlearn is currently offering a 30% saving – use coupon code NEWSITE
