"You are what you believe yourself to be" and today, Fran is a Native American.
I had been looking for a reason to work with Baneology for quite some time but the right project never seemed to come up. Then, as I was making plans for another shoot, I decided to take it in a different direction and the perfect opportunity was suddenly staring me straight in the face.
In order to make my vision a reality, I needed a specialist headdress so I got in touch with Kim, the designer from Paradise Gypsies, who makes amazing headdresses, and she agreed to make one specifically for me with which I could do whatever I liked. While she got to work on her creation, I contacted Adam, aka Baneology, to see if he would like to collaborate on a shoot involving UV paint. He was very keen and from then on things moved rapidly forward.
Having found a willing model, the UV lights, and sorted the make-up and the headdress, we were able to actually organise the shoot. One word of advice should you want to do this kind of shoot yourself - get the most powerful blacklights you can. The cheaper, smaller ones are simply not strong enough to give you enough light for detail shots. Unfortunately, this meant that the UV beauty shot I had planned had to be dropped until next time (Oh yes, I will revisit this concept). Jason assisted me, giving up his evening to hold lights and offer encouragement, which was much appreciated.
To begin with, Fran was decorated with UV paint designs, then later we poured even more paint over both her and the headdress. It takes a special kind of model to agree to this! The clean-up on this was enormous. If you do plan to do a messy shoot, ensure you have access to showers and lots of wipes.
I want to say a MASSIVE thank you to Paradise Gypsies - without your clever thinking with the feathers, this shoot would have never happened. Please visit her page and see what great designs she has to offer.
